Sawley will remember them - Covid restrictions

Sawley will remember them - it will be different this year, but still very respectful.

Unfortunately this year's Sawley's Act of remembrance service will have to be somewhat different to previous years to comply with Covid 19 restrictions.

Because of Covid-19 restrictions this year there will be no road closure, parade, singing or bugler.

Covid-19 might force us into acting differently - but it won't strop residents of Sawley from showing respect & remembrance on Remembrance Sunday.

On Sunday 10 November the residents of Sawley attended an Act of Remembrance for all those who were killed in the two World Wars and other conflicts in modern times.

Hundreds of residents gathered for the parade from All Saints Church and the Act of Remembrance at the Memorial, with the laying of wreaths and crosses by individuals and organisations from Sawley.

On Sunday 11 November the residents of Sawley marked the Centenary of the Armistice that ended the First World War with an Act of Remembrance which took place at Sawley War Memorial.

Aquamarine class and Amethyst class Remember

Aquamarine class and Amethyst class Remember

Residents of all ages have been thinking about Remembrance Day and preparing their own commemoration to the men of the village who lost their lives in WW1 & WW2.

The children of Sawley Infant and Nursery School have made these handprint poppy wreaths and have placed them at the War Memorial. They were laid by Aquamarine class and Amethyst class from year 2.

Residents walking or driving past the War Memorial on the corner of Tamworth Road and Lock Lane have been stopped in their tracks by the striking display of poppies there.
