Lighting up Sawley!

Lighting up Sawley!

Thank you to the many residents, young and old, who came along yesterday evening to celebrate the switching on of the Sawley Christmas Lights.

A huge crowd gathered at Lakeside Park for the event. Prior to the switch on they were entertained by the Long Eaton Silver Prize Band and the Choir, U3A Silvatones who bravely played and sang Christmas Carols and tunes in the cold - but thankfully dry - November evening.

Over in the Methodist Hall, stalls and refreshments were available to all. The tea & coffee, mulled wine, mince pies and gingerbread men were welcomed by the visitors, helping them to warm up before the big light switch-on!

We were joined by the Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Chris Corbett, who led the count-down at 7pm, helped by several children. On the count of one the plunger went down and the lights in the trees and the garlands strung at points along Tamworth Road and Draycott Road were lit.

The decorations look really lovely, and we hope that residents of the village and others passing through, enjoy the lights over the festive period!
