Many thanks to the ladies of the Sawley Women's Institute

Residents walking or driving past the War Memorial on the corner of Tamworth Road and Lock Lane have been stopped in their tracks by the striking display of poppies there.

The displays are the hard work of the members of the Sawley Women's Institute who for many weeks have been knitting the many hundreds of bright woollen poppies that have been used to create the installations - inspired by those at the Tower of London and the Imperial War Museum.

As the village prepares to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1 on Sunday 11 November it has been an all consuming task for the ladies of the WI to complete their work.

It must have involved a huge amount of planning and preparation. Many thanks ladies!
